2005-Current Ford Mustang Rally Stripe Installation Notes

 

While our precut kits appear to be "simple" to install, application techniques used in certain areas of the kit prove to make the project go smoother. Please review the notes below that we've compiled to assist in the installation.
By all means, if you do not feel comfortable with the thought of installing the stripes yourself, we suggest contacting a local graphics installer and/or automotive body shop in your area to assist.
In the event a new piece is required, simply let us know the part number (ATD-FRDMSTNGGRPH5a) proceeded by the letter designation of the piece required (i.e., ATD-FRDMSTNGGRPH5a-h). We'll provide a cost for the piece and make arrangements to send one out upon receipt of payment.
While Installation Notes below are for the Mustang GT graphics kit (ATD-FRDMSTNGGRPH5a), much of the same information also applies to the Mustang V6 kit (ATD-FRDMSTNGGRPH5b).

 
1)  Please review the general Custom Graphics Installation Instructions to become familiar with the preparation of the finished surfaces and methods of installation.
2)  Cut the graphics apart from the kit sheet. Carefully cut each piece so that approximately 1/8" (.64cm) of the excess backing and application paper is exposed.
3)  The stripe kit is set for a 2" space at the center of the vehicle. Thus, mark with a grease pencil, fine line tape or other temporary marking device a 1" (25.40mm) or 2" (50.80mm) - depending on the kit purchased - strip down the center of the vehicle. You will use these marks to place your stripes.
Prior to installing the Hood stripes, carefully remove the Washer Nozzles for easier installation.
4)  Stripes A, B, E, F, G & H are pretty straight-forward as far as installation goes. All the stripes have an approximate .0625"-.125" (1.5875mm-3.175mm) margin at each end. So, simply center the stripes in the area and install. We usually install from the center of the stripe and work to each end with the squeegee. This is done by simply peeling approximately 2-4" (5.08cm-10.16cm) of the backing paper from the center, folding each side of the backing paper slightly, and "hinging" the graphic from the center.
When installation of the Hood stripes is complete, simply cut an "X" in the Washer Nozzle holes located in the hood and re-install the Nozzles through the vinyl.
5)  Stripe pieces C, D, I, J, K & L are the most difficult to install (if you don't know what you are doing). Due to the fact the areas of installation have compound curve surfaces, creases may occur if you start the stripe out in certain areas. Please note the following tips:
Stripe pieces C & D:
These pieces are installed on the Front Bumper. Due to the fact that the license plate depression is within the area of installation, the transition from the top front of the Bumper into the license plate depression may be a little "tricky". To assist, we suggest lining up the stripe at the top of the Bumper with the lines you have previously marked and start the installation of the stripe at the front vertical edge of the Bumper. When the stripe is "stuck" down, simply work both ways (on the top of the Bumper to the back and down) from the edge. When you get into the depressed area, be careful to keep the stripe tight and work your way down with a "firm" squeegee motion to the end of the stripe. Working the stripe back onto the top of the Bumper should be relatively simple.
Stripe pieces I & J:
Pieces I & J are probably the most difficult and could produce what we call "soft creases". Soft Creases are thin pockets of air that may come out by simply popping a pin on one end and working the air out with your fingers or squeegee.
If your Mustang is equipped with a spoiler, we recommend temporarily removing it for ease of installation.
Again, we suggest starting the installation at the edge of the Rear Trunk Lid just below the Third Brake Light where the concave area meets the vertical (shown by the Yellow arrow above). Once you have the piece "stuck" on the edge, you can squeegee the stripe onto the vertical surface around the Third Brake light as well as the horizontal surface towards the front of the vehicle. The area of difficulty will be within the concave area of the Lid around the Chrome emblem. When working the piece down within this area, you will have to "work" the stripe into the concave area and perhaps have to set and reset the piece several times to overcome the slightly compound curve. Firmly working the piece into this area with your thumb may be the best. Once you come out of the concave area, the piece should lay well around the rear center Chrome emblem. Slight trimming may be required if the piece(s) appear a little off from the emblem.
Stripe pieces K & L:
These pieces are not all that difficult, however we again suggest starting the installation at the "edge" of the diagonal and the vertical area of the Rear Bumper. This will help "even out" the travel of installation and make it easier due to the compound curve in the area of installation.
In the event a new piece is required, don't fret. While it's frustrating that a little piece of vinyl can give us so much grief, just remember that the worst case scenario is the you just have to purchase another one - it's certainly not the end of the world. We suggest swearing a bit and moving on.
